The Democrats Lost Their Way, Now They Must Reclaim it

The Democrats Lost Their Way

I think when Bill Clinton became president, the Democratic Party lost its way. I believe the seeds of this were planted by the Carter Administration but not to the extent of the corporate agenda of Bill Clinton and his Administration.

The Clinton administration catered to the banks and signed NAFTA into law. It was abominable, Republican light type of government. It could also be called Neo-Liberalism but whatever you want to call it won’t work. It’s uninspiring as well as ineffective and it helped grow inequality.

I don’t like Trump but at least he’s trying to put people to work or is putting on the appearance that he is trying to put people to work. The Wall, spending large sums on the military, tax breaks, environmental deregulation and reviving the coal industry. Most of these approaches, if not all, will end up costing us jobs in the long run but at least he’s doing something to at least buttress all the kinds of lies he is feeding the gullible still buying into him.

I think the majority of the time the Republican Party is full of crap, always trying to hide its true self as a cheap whore to their corporate masters. The Republicans and their corporate masters have been trying to undo The New Deal since the thirties.

The problem is that the Democrats are too often doing the same thing to their shame and our undoing! Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying the Democrats, especially under President Obama, did not do anything to boost jobs, they did. And they are still trying. I believe President Obama really tried to get people to work but the Congressional Republicans, led by John Boehner and Mitch McConnell, blocked every good bill he tried to accomplish. But they need to be wiser, tougher, and more passionate!

We just can’t give up. We must have an enthusiastic conviction, long term goals, and set out plans to achieve them because we are standing on the side of justice! The Republican Party is self serving. We are looking out for our fellow man. Our integrity should drive us forward. But Democrats need to get the message out to the public that they can secure jobs and security for the nation.

It is time for Democrats get back to the basics. We all know what this means: national healthcare, war accountability, affordable quality education, banking regulation, fighting for the environment, and fair elections. Equal rights for all, not just for the privileged. We could take this argument further but our heart, and messaging, must be in the right place for the sake of others, our planet and our conscience!

About Jack Jones

Jack Jones writes for Democracy Chronicles from Chicago’s south suburbs where he grew up. He is a union electrician Local 134, certified minister from Berean University, AYSO board member and coach, basketball coach, Cub Scout leader, husband, father and social participant. Jack considers himself a gourmet junk food chef, political writer, musician and likes to contribute to the world around him. A former deacon and chaplain at Cook County Jail in Chicago, he feels that our out-of-control corporate, religious and political environment is to blame for many of the problems in the world today. Jack believes we need to get money out of politics and that the church should take care of people instead of trying to get hypocrites elected to public office.
