Rep. Hunter

Duncan Hunter and wife are undergoing FBI investigation on charges of diverting campaign funds for fun trips and lifestyle. The Republican made it to Congress as representative of the 50th Congressional District in 2012, re-elected in 2014 and 2016. Still pursuing the same seat, Duncan might just win a sixth term in November as he emerged first in June primary.

Duncan and wife, though being investigated on allegations of misappropriating $250000 still stand a chance for re-election. However, these indictments actually give hope to Democrats as they believe they might just occupy the used-to-be-republican seat for the 50th congressional district California. VOA has reported on this story. Read here.

This story depicts the role that America’s justice system continues to play in the country’s democracy. As arbiter in disputes and a major player in state politics, the American judiciary is vital in fixing the US Election system.

Individuals akin to corrupt practises might continue such behavior while holding public office. It is important for the courts to keep the system in check as their decisions equally help voters make informed choices. Let’s wait and see what happens with the Duncan case.
