Fragile State of American Politics

Come November there will be more at stake than the presidency.  More importantly, the values and principles this great country was built upon will be at stake.

Throughout the election cycle, there is one thing I have learned: the people who support Donald Trump will not be dissuaded. Their beliefs are deeply rooted and will not waiver. They will go to great lengths to defend him. Facts are no longer relevant. They believe what they believe and that is it.

I don’t wish to get into the Donald Trump’s policies or lack thereof. I simply wish to convey a message. What happened at the recent Chicago rally left me speechless. Hate has overcome the candidacy of Donald Trump, and rather than disavow it he embraces it, and not only does he embrace it, he encourages it. And what happened in Chicago was a disgrace. As someone who lives for politics, whose passion is politics, I am scared and disheartened.

“This is no longer a fight for a nomination or a presidency, it is a fight for who we are as a country.”

Where we’re at currently is a moment of reckoning. This is a moment where each and every American needs to look around, look in the mirror, and ask themselves…what have we become? How have we let this get so out of hand? This is no longer a fight for a nomination or a presidency, it is a fight for who we are as a country. Will we succumb to the hate, or will we rise above.

I hold onto hope and continue to have faith that come November, the American people will make the right decision. We must understand what is at stake. We must understand, that in order for America to truly be great, we as a people must overcome the hate that is consuming our country.

United we stand or divided we fall.
