Democracy Chronicles

Help us Make the Bell Ring in New York

Make the Bell Ring in New York

Jeff Kurzon is a DC writer and a candidate for Congress. He is running with the Democrats but we love him at Democracy Chronicles because he puts election reform at the front of his campaign. New York’s new 7th District encompasses neighborhoods in three boroughs. Its “V” shape is anchored in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park and Queen’s Woodhaven. In between, the district includes the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Bushwick, Williamsburg, Cypress Hills, Red Hook, Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo, Vinegar Hill, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Gowanus, and Park Slope; the Manhattan neighborhoods of Little Italy, NoLita, Avenue D, the Lower East Side and Chinatown; and Queens’ Ridgewood.

Thank you so much for volunteering with us. It really means a lot to me. Now is the real crunch time. The election is only 38 days away. Whether you joined us to help get big money out of politics, to learn how campaigns work, or both, now is when we need you most.

We have been making calls every day and new interns are joining us to help us identify supporters and get them to the polls. This is an all-hands on deck effort and I need you now more than ever. From 5-9pm  every day we are calling voters and on weekends we are doing both calling and door knocking. We also need people in the office helping with data entry, making short funny films (yes, we plan to do this) and fundraising.

Make the Bell Ring in New York CityRealizing that our office at 382 Hamilton Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11231 (phone 718-596-4703) is not a convenient place for a lot of you, I want to let you know that you can volunteer from home. You can make calls and enter the data via your computer; or have us send you a list to contact voters offline. If you are willing to do either of these to help our campaign, please just reply to this e-mail and we will get you set-up.

You can also raise small dollar donations from friends and family. The irony is that if you want me in Washington, DC campaigning to change the status quo and stop big corporations from running the show, then we will need to raise more money to reach more voters. Small donations really add up – you can create your own personal fundraising page and track your results too. You just need to set up the page and then ask friends and family for a specific amount that you believe they would be comfortable giving. (I raised $45,000 for Obama this way, so you can raise $45 for me!). I’ll call and thank every donor!

You make the bell ring every time we find a new supporter (or I get a donation of $100 or more). It has been ringing a lot, but we need your help to make it ring even more.

Thank you for your support. 38 days to go and I need your help now more than ever. With your help, I know I will this election. Hope to see you in the office or hear from you soon. Thanks again.

Best,
Kurzon for Congress
