Democracy Chronicles

Here At The Crossroads, To Lead Or Be Led

by Jack Jones - August 1, 2022

So when are the rest of us going to get the tax breaks of the Oligarchs? Why do the Oligarchs think that they are so special? You know Gates, Bezos, Musk, and the like. This oppressive business maneuvering is creating the monopolies as well as the inflation that is killing the rest of us and is preventing new start-ups from happening. The rest of us don’t have write-offs of any real consequence anymore due to the ridiculous and undeserving tax breaks that Trump and the GOP gave to the rich. The only thing he accomplished is a volatile and over-inflated stock market.

The markets, not us, not the planet

These so-called capitalists only care about markets, not us or what’s good for the country. Ideas such as national healthcare could help new businesses to get off the ground more easily not to mention if State and Federal governments were made to buy American-made products, something that before the senseless acts of ex-President Ronald Reagan was law. We could actually fix our country if the majority of politicians and Supreme Court justices weren’t already bought off.

We can’t even get any legitimate climate control legislation accomplished because of the Republicans and their allies Manchin and Sinema. Joe Manchin receives financial backing from fossil fuel companies, perhaps more than any politician in U.S. history, and this is part of the reason why our country and the planet will burn. Do you possibly think that we may need to do something about Citizens United now?

A compromised society

The point I am making is, every sector of our lives and society has been compromised by the present Kleptocracy. Our government is still not able to negotiate what they will pay for prescription drugs due to thieving and unscrupulous politicians. Every part of our lives is only getting harder due to the greed of the few who are doing everything possible so that we can’t change it. Our voices, even though we are shouting, are not being heard and won’t be heard. The only thing that might get their attention is a popular uprising, perhaps the kind that brought about the French Revolution.

Again at the crossroads

The Rich among us are trying to persuade the churchgoers, conservatives and the rest of the misinformed to follow an autocrat, basically another Trump-type figure. So that we as a nation will follow and be led by hate. So far it looks like our country is going to be led by hate. People are more concerned by the cost of gas and inflation not knowing it’s the business owner that sets the prices and not President Biden. I firmly believe our country went into a downward spiral because of the Presidency of Ronald Reagan. I believe we are facing this same spot in history as our country was upset at the Carter Presidency because of similar issues. We are now starting to enter the very same crossroads once again.

Lead or be led

Are we going to enter the next presidential election out of fear, hate, and racism or are we going to try to stay the course, go through some pain, and actually fix our country instead of allowing the Oligarchs to make a full-on fascist state of our government and these United States of America? A lot hangs in the balance here and now. The crazy greed of the few is making all these bad things happen. We need to do our part. Get involved, get informed, and act for our sake. People must work to overturn the unfair policies such as the Citizens United ruling. It is the only way to make life equitable and fair for everyone, it is the only way we will have fighting chance to salvage our democracy.
