Holding Them Accountable For Our Failed Democracy

I think American corporations who have left the country to have items produced by cheaper labor overseas should be taxed by what they would have been taxed if said items were created here. It’s a myth that there is such a thing as a market driven economy, especially when every politician on Capitol Hill is taking money from somebody! American corporations have left a financial hole in our nation by their greed, it’s not just making money off labor but they are making out by not paying taxes and we as Americans are suffering because of it.

The greed of corporate America is obnoxious and is and has been threatening our existence. They are price gouging every American in every sector because everything has been privatized to our collective detriment and this has added to the total cost of goods and services from the cost of education to the cost of health care.

At the same time we pay for our crazy military budget, our subsidized oil industry and our inflated banking system that are living off our bailouts and special tax breaks! I remember General Electric’s famed longtime CEO Jack Welch, said in so many words that he would like to put his businesses on barges and park them in the harbors of the countries with the lowest tax base and move them around accordingly. These parasites who don’t add anything to humanity except for subpar merchandise at exorbitant prices only care about money and not me and you and that is the very reason why our country is in such bad shape. They control everything (including our politicians) and won’t invest in our country or our futures.

Corporate America have mas money the principal aim and we are paying the price! They are worshiping mammon with the evangelical churches blessing because the church and these mega churches are not paying taxes as well. We need to hold corporate America and the establishment responsible for our opioid epidemic and the mistreatment of the average prisoner in their for profit jails. Why have we let the worst among us with the absolute worst ideas run our country and steal our democracy from us? We need to confront these issues and especially these corporate pirates before it’s too late. These right wing talk show hosts are being supported and financially backed by corporate America to make us believe in their plan for maximum profit for the minority and the destruction of the lives of the majority.

We cannot go on like this and think for a moment that things will get better for the majority in any arena. I get it that many of these ideas are outside the common discourse of the average American. It is because even public television has been violated by the endowments of the oligarchs to the point that real programming has been watered down to a passive place of conformity and the intellectual movers and shakers like Norm Chomsky, and newcomers like Chris Hedges aren’t given a voice and the under-informed public are not given access to the answers to our present issues. And so, we just go along and complain that things are not getting better. And that is true! Unless we turn around and work for the common good, things will only get worse.

Taken together, it all leaves us few points of political protest while the oligarchs have figured out an escape plan, in their gated communities, yachts or island retreats! Until we decide to fight back in real and creative ways they will only keep on taking advantage and sink our country because that is who they are and what they do! We must start to protest and fight against the filthy rich in terms of tax increases and regulation until some semblance of fairness reaches the masses once more!

It’s true that I don’t think much of corporate America. It’s because they are to blame, are guilty of horrible offenses, and have made a mess of our lives and our country. They have leveled our political system and for personal gain without a thought on how it affects you and I. They just expect us to take it and carry on watching our lives as opportunities fall apart around us. They need a wake up call, divorcement letter served and a new lock on the door. We should not continue to go along with this rigged game anymore and we should let our opinions be known for the sake of the next generation! Let’s join together in solidarity for the cause of all!

About Jack Jones

Jack Jones writes for Democracy Chronicles from Chicago’s south suburbs where he grew up. He is a union electrician Local 134, certified minister from Berean University, AYSO board member and coach, basketball coach, Cub Scout leader, husband, father and social participant. Jack considers himself a gourmet junk food chef, political writer, musician and likes to contribute to the world around him. A former deacon and chaplain at Cook County Jail in Chicago, he feels that our out-of-control corporate, religious and political environment is to blame for many of the problems in the world today. Jack believes we need to get money out of politics and that the church should take care of people instead of trying to get hypocrites elected to public office.
