The Isolation of America, From America

Isolation of America
King Trump (link)

It has been over a month into Trump’s Presidency. It has been weeks of political chaos! This administration has been critical of the Press, Immigrants, Judges, some of the U.S. Senators, Latinos and Muslims. He has signed and put into effect many executive orders including the Muslim Ban, the dismantling of Obamacare, the Mexico/U.S. Border Wall, the Dakota Pipeline and the Mass Deportation Order. The President has made many controversial cabinet choices including several family members. Most of the cabinet choices are millionaires and billionaires and most have no governmental experience nor the educational background to fill these posts but, the President of the United States believes that these are the best people for the posts so, he’s getting them through.

Pushback he is getting, from the Democrats on the hill, however, he continues the bullying against the establishment. Trump has been blatantly showing, from his bully pulpit, signs of “Authoritarianism” and if you think that this just started, think again. Tracing it back to the inception of his campaign was not hard at all. This idealism has been there all along. The only difference now is that it has transitioned into the White House and it is displayed on a daily basis for the entire world to see.

Non-traditional government

And so, our country is beginning to resist a non-traditional government, a government like no other seen before in this country. A heartless, mindless government. An administration with so much propaganda that resistance groups have filled the streets in many states like Washington – The women march, New York – Inauguration Rally Against Trump, California – Immigration Rallies, Texas – Resistance against Trump began, Maryland – Students walk out of Md. High School to protest Trump, Florida – Protest against Trump and many more to protest from Obamacare to cabinet choices to Planned Parenthood to Immigration reform.  For example, the nomination and confirmation of Betsy DeVos, was very controversial because while she was being grilled, the question about “Americans Disability Act” (ADA) came up and according to her response, it was obvious that she was not aware of such a law.  Scary, especially for our disabled children.

DeVos

Surprisingly, at the last minute, in order to get her confirmed, Pence (the Vice President of the United States) broke the tie with his vote, making DeVos Secretary of Education and placing our educational system at risk. What Pence did is considered an unprecedented move since no Vice President has done this before. Betsy DeVos was nominated and confirmed as Education Secretary. Thank you Mike Pence for helping to set back our educational system.

Sessions

Like DeVos, there are others.  Jeff Sessions, for example; his nomination was highly controversial, as well, but he has been confirmed as Attorney General of the United States.  He has been known to speak not so good about African Americans and has made many racially motivated comments.  Martin Luther King’s late wife, Coretta King, wrote a letter against Sessions nomination in 1986, he was nominated by Ronald Reagan for the Federal Judge Bench, yet it was never read. He was not confirmed at that time for that position due to being too racist.

Recently, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D) brought this letter to light when she was hush by Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Senator McConnell said that because she insisted on reading from the letter, she resisted to be quiet so, McConnell view this as though she was impugning Sessions and, therefore, she was placed on a gag order. These are highly controversial nominees and the Democrats are standing their ground against their nominations.

Flynn

Michael Flynn was also placed in a highly controversial position as National Security Adviser and has been known to have a relationship with Vladimir Putin, Russia’s President. In the latest reports, by CNN and MSNBC, Flynn spoke to Russia’s Ambassador the day that the Obama administration imposed sanctions on Russia and it has been revealed by a government investigation that the sanctions placed on Russia by the Obama were discussed during a telephone communication between Flynn and Russia’s Ambassador. This could mean that either Trump knew about this communication or that Flynn has been lying to Trump and Pence all along. Still, we have yet to find out the complete information behind this investigation.

In a turn of events on February 14th, in the morning hours, Flynn tended his resignation leaving many unanswered questions. No one knows to what extent our national security has been breached.  However, the scary part of the Trump’s Presidency, as we were warned by Trump himself is the fact that he has repeatedly said that our country is in immediate danger from everyone and from all of the countries around the world. On national television, it was broadcast, Trump said, “we need to fear everyone around the world”. Does he feel paranoid or is there someone else telling the President what to do? Or maybe, does he know or have some kind of intelligence that would suggest immediate danger? The American people deserve better than this. Fear has no place in our America!

Muslim ban and deportation

Trump’s paranoia came to its height when he started persecuting Muslims and Latinos. A sudden Muslim ban went into effect, leaving many stranded at airports including the elderly and children, causing a huge amount of chaos in what became an apparent misuse of power to racially isolate the Muslims because of their Religion from coming in to this country.

The other group he is targeting are Latinos.  According to Trump, he will deport hundreds of criminals. ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) have started deportation procedures already from homes, schools and work. So far ICE have raided and deported many, even some that were in this country for years and were not a menace to anyone. It has been estimated by Homeland Security, John Kelly, that at least 680 immigrants were arrested by what is being called as “series of targeted enforcement operations in about 12 states”.  It is understandable to deport criminals that come to this country to hide from atrocious acts but, if you have been in this country and this country is all you have known for years and you are not a criminal, why should you be deported? It seems like what this administration is lacking is compassion toward its vulnerable citizens. Immigrants are vulnerable because they come to this country to escape poverty and oppression. Plenty of times they end up taking the least desirable jobs in order to support their families. They become subjected to abusive work conditions, low pay and no type of benefits and, from these conditions many have risen to owning their own businesses and in return they produce jobs that help our economy. So, it is true to say that immigrants contribute to our well-being in this country.  Some immigrants that were not criminals, however, here illegally were still sent back to Mexico, instead of being afforded the opportunity of becoming citizens.

Imagine a place that you left for more than twenty years.  A place you left for a better life in America!  And now, you have known America from childhood and, suddenly you are going to be deported to a place that is unknown to you and your family. Where do you go? You have been gone for so long that you have no one waiting for you or even a home to go to because your home is in America. This is a very sad and frustrating situation. So many immigrants have already been deported by force leaving their children behind.  Some have been detained for a period of time followed by deportation and some have just been deported immediately. At this time, it is not known if there are people that are held in detention centers across the country, this would not be surprising, since President Trump seem to want to rid the country of Muslims and Latinos. How did we get here? Where is our America going?  It feels like we are becoming isolated from our neighbors around the world. Does this have a purpose? This is definitely intentional. What are the intentions behind deporting so many immigrants?

Why so much division?

Trump says he is going to build a Great Wall to secure the borders.  He is installing a Muslim ban to keep immigrants from coming to America. All that refugees want is freedom and to find a better life from their oppressive governments.  Have we fallen into the wrath of a regime ourselves? Are we beginning to feel oppressed? Fear does paralyze some people but, what about hearing the leader of the free world using words to divide the country?  When he has these so called rallies, who is he speaking to? Is he only directing his messages to his supporters and calling out the opposition to ridicule and belittle them? Or does he really need to have an opposition that he can target to blame for the things that go wrong?

For example; The Press! Why does it seemed like he is targeting the press so much? Is it because freedom of speech does not matter in this administration? He keeps on saying that The Press reports fake news and that The Press is the enemy. Mr. president please tell us, Americans, what is the purpose of saying that The Press is saying “Fake News”? Do you only want us to believe you? In that case, why are you telling us these untruths? The Press has never been more professional!

The Press has never been fake!  Maybe, there are some questionable news reporters out there, but we cannot say this about all of the press. It would certainly be unfair!  As Obama said, in his last press conference to the press, “You have helped me become a better President by challenging me every day”. Reporters are the ones that keep us informed. They are the ones that challenge us and take us in the quest for honesty, especially in politics. The freedom of speech and the press are crucial to a free society. It is a right in a Democracy!  Is it not true that once you become the president, you should be for all people? No matter if you were the opposition.

Why is our government trying to isolate America? Isolate us from our laws, customs, free speech, diversity and religion! America was already great! All America needed was to have a President, a leader, to continue the great work of our last President, Obama, and add to what was accomplished to make it better for all Americans. President Obama left the economy in a very good state, the unemployment rate was left at the lowest rate in over decades and left over 20 million Americans with health insurance, our housing market was beginning to pick up and America was thriving without refusing to give refuge to refugees.  That was all America needed addition, not division! America need immigrants from all over the globe to share with us and to add diversity to our culture. Our America needs culturalism in order to continue with the message of “The land of the free”!
