It’s Time to Grow the Texas Democratic Party from the Bottom Up

It's Time to Grow the Texas Democratic Party from the Bottom UpI am running for Chair for one reason and one reason only; to help Democrats all across Texas win more elections-up and down the ballot-to restore and advance progress in our state.

As Chair of the Texas Democratic Party, I will make sure that Democrats in East and West Texas, The Valley, and all of our rural, suburban and urban counties know that they are not alone. They now have a champion, on their side, who will stand up to voter suppression and political intimidation at the state, local, and county levels everywhere, in our state.

My plan for rebuilding the Texas Democratic Party From The Bottom Up will prepare and carry us through the 2022 general election, the 2024 presidential election cycle, and all the way through to the 2030 Census and redistricting in 2031 and every local election cycle and Texas legislative session in between.

As Chair of the Texas Democratic Party, our priorities will be winning statewide elections, retaking the Texas legislature, and growing our numbers in the Texas congressional delegation by focusing on building up and properly funding our county parties, making sure every county has a Democratic County Party Chair and paid staffer as well as making sure we have a Precinct Chair in every one of the 9000+ voting precincts in our state and investing in electing Democrats to local, county and judicial offices just as we do in legislative and congressional races.

I will work with all of our State Democratic Executive Committee (SDEC) and DNC members, as well as Caucuses, to achieve our goals: political victories and policy progress.

Together, we must build a Bigger, Stronger, and Bolder Texas Democratic Party.

ReBuilding the Texas Democratic Party From The Bottom Up is not a political slogan; it is a fundamental political organizing strategy for building a sustainable statewide political infrastructure to win elections in every region of our state-up and down the ballot-as the building blocks for winning statewide races and winning back the Texas legislature.

I am personally asking every Democrat, in Texas, for your help, support, and vote to ReBuild our party in every corner of our state.

To win back Texas, every Democrat, in our state, must First Believe we can win, and then we must organize in our voting precincts.

We must have an active Democratic Precinct Chair, in every voting precinct, in our state and we need every Precinct Chair to knock on every Democratic primary voter’s door in person and virtually before the end of June 2022.

We need our Precinct Chairs to make sure the state party VAN data, for their precinct, is correct so that they can help lead our 2022 general election to get out the vote ground-game.

Every County Party Chair, Precinct Chair, and locally elected Democrat should be an automatic delegate to state party conventions and should be involved, along with local campaign managers, local consultants, Democratic Clubs, and small-dollar donors in helping to develop the Party’s messaging.

Our Precinct Chairs, Local Elected Officials, and winning local consultants have been taken for granted for far too long. They too must have a seat at the table with our allied groups and state consultants, if we are going to win back Texas.

As State Party Chair, our state conventions will become true grassroots training, organizing and messaging events, and not just simply political theater.

As a former At-Large Houston City Councilmember, Democratic Candidate for Congress, Chairman of a Chamber of Commerce, General Counsel of the Texas Democratic Party, DNC Member, Chief of Staff and General Counsel to a Texas State Senator, a past President of the Texas Association of Black City Council Members, former Treasurer of the NAACP Houston Branch and currently Chairman of the Texas Coalition of Black Democrats, I have the experience and a comprehensive plan to help us win back Texas when you elect me Chair of our state party.
