A Brazilian Candidate and Also an Executioner?

Jair Bolsonaro, The Executioner?
National Social Liberal Party presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro greets people as he campaigns at Madureira market in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Aug. 27, 2018. Brazil will hold general elections on Oct. 7

Jair Bolsonaro, presidential candidate for the Social Liberal Party (PSL) and a leading candidate for the presidential election in Brazil has promised hell for criminals.

“…[Jair stated that] police should be given license to kill criminals and those who do should receive medals not face prosecution“.

Coming from Sao Paulo, the most lawless part of Brazil, Jair is undoubtedly the “god of death” to all law-breakers.

However, it is worrying that were “Pure” Jair to be elected he could actually encourage heavy-handedness. This is particularly disturbing as Jair has questioned the ability of the judiciary to pass judgment.

Has Jair never broken the law? And should the world be worried about a Jair presidency, considering his military background? Also, should candidates contesting for the presidency with Jair check themselves and make haste in seeking refuge were Jair to become the President of Brazil?

I am convinced that the Jair rhetoric while popular can be dangerous for Brazil’s democracy. Out-rightly making these kinds of declarations that go against human rights is a call for concern.
