The Next Generation Revolution Returns?

Topics include – We Cover the ‘Premaries’, We Test Your Knowledge on Israel or Iran – This or That, How Many Times Do The Cops Need to Not Kill Black Citizens, and A Greater Great Britain.

Our 27th installment later, and I have myself pondering the question – is anything we are doing really matter? Is NGNJnews the ‘News for the Next Generation’ we imagined it would be?

The answer to that is probably not. It is silly to believe that a couple of kids with a camera and some corny jokes can make that big of a difference, let alone anything worthwhile or meaningful.

Yet, every time we sit down at that table, read over the week’s top stories, and spit out jokes and ridiculous skits, I can’t help but to think to myself that we are doing something important here, something big. If not the content itself, the action of simply doing it is bigger than anything we could possibly hope to portray or communicate on screen.

You see, the Next Generation News Junkies, or NGNJnews was like any other concept bore out of the bowels of ridiculing the mainstream media. Like those who came before and inspired us, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Weekend Update, etc., the idea isn’t anything novel.

But what is novel particularly about NGNJnews, more so than anything else, is its genuine spirit of having a good time and finishing a thought to its end.

And I think that is what is so miraculous or special about NGNJnews. Not the jokes, or the ideas, or skits or whatever ridiculous spatter ends up on the editing board. It’s the protruding arrogance that we believe we can do something different, and a pair of balls to match.

NGNJnews was founded in September of 2012 in an off-campus apartment in somewhere Cortland, NY, and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend my senior year of college. The people behind NGNJ will always have a special place in my heart. I couldn’t have been graced with a better crew of friends, as well as colleagues, who embraced the idea, took it under their wing and made it theirs. We can look back at all we have put out there and see that the organization itself speaks louder than any of us ever could have individually.

The genuine spirit of the Next Gen Revolution lives on in idle Youtube clips and lost archives. Our last Broadcast, #27, goes out to all of those who have helped us along the way. We thank you.
