What’s Wrong With Us And Right In New Zealand?

Right In New Zealand

The problem we have today is we’re living in the Wild West. Some of our citizens have a fetish with semi-automatic weapons and other military weapons, the same that have been used in school shootings. This largely is because George W. Bush let the Federal Assault Weapons Ban that made them illegal expire.

At the same time, our Country has also over-militarized our police departments to the place where they are wearing combat type uniforms and using combat style weapons and vehicles. They look like they are the hired guns employed by Blackwater. This has lead to a system where the police often cause undue harm to our citizens through the
bravado infused in them by their Robocop-style equipment.

New Zealand recently had a terrible mass shooting from a gunman that walked into a mosque and killed 50 people in Christchurch. The shooter, inspired by President Trump, would be in America another terrible, tragic
crime in a line of such outrages. On the other hand, the New Zealanders proceeded immediately to fix their laws.

Just like everybody else who haven’t sold their soul to the NRA, they voted out assault weapons by a margin of 119-1. This represented something we lack in America, immediate and swift justice for the people, the victims and public. They saw something was wrong, they were sorry for what happened, they grieved for the loss, and with the victims families attending, they voted out assault weapons!

What a triumph out of tragedy! Yes, there is sanity and answers in the world for this type of evil occurrence and, yes, that it happened quickly in New Zealand is an example for America to live up to. They knew that it was the right time to talk about it. How about you?

About Jack Jones

Jack Jones writes for Democracy Chronicles from Chicago’s south suburbs where he grew up. He is a union electrician Local 134, certified minister from Berean University, AYSO board member and coach, basketball coach, Cub Scout leader, husband, father and social participant. Jack considers himself a gourmet junk food chef, political writer, musician and likes to contribute to the world around him. A former deacon and chaplain at Cook County Jail in Chicago, he feels that our out-of-control corporate, religious and political environment is to blame for many of the problems in the world today. Jack believes we need to get money out of politics and that the church should take care of people instead of trying to get hypocrites elected to public office.

I agree. Our country does not need & should not have our police armed with military assault weapons. Also, the sale of these weapons need to be stopped.

Yes, I agree the whole thing is out of control and dangerous yet our main manufactured items are weapons, instead of libraries, ,bridges, and roads! A group outcry is what it will take to turn this mess around!!
