Group Think In The Stop The Steal Movement

Stop The Steal MovementI have been thinking about how current statistics show that there are approximately 14 million Americans who subscribe to the insane beliefs of the Q-Anon movement, that approximately 74 million Americans voted for Trump, and that, depending on the state, many of those voters believe Trump’s lie that the election was stolen (“Stop the Steal!”). Many of these people also believe that Trump is going to be magically reinstated in August of this year.

That’s when it hit me: this is the most frightening part of the whole delusional, fascist mindset. Think about this for a moment. Millions and millions of adults, many of whom have had the benefit of higher education, people who have grown up in the United States, the cradle of modern democracy, and who have had the advantages of the strongest economy in the world, as well as the most culturally and intellectually diverse society in the world, are in fact malignant, primitive psychopaths who literally believe that Trump is the rightful President and that he is going to resume his presidency this August. All of this IN SPITE OF THE FACT that there is absolutely no legal or constitutional path that could allow this to happen.

Does this not frighten you? That these people cannot perform the most fundamental and rudimentary conceptual task of simply looking up this information either on the Internet, in books, articles, or the Constitution itself? It is a task that a 12 year old would be expected to execute for an American Government project. These are some of the people who stormed the Capitol on Jan 6. Does it not frighten you that all of them are incapable of processing information and acknowledging reality?

This is tantamount to what Orwell called “Group Think” and “Group Speech” in his novel “1984.” There is no critical thinking, or as Marcus Aurelius would say, “Ask of every particular thing, What is it? What is it in itself?” There is no objective awareness of any kind, only slogans and the “Group Think” of Orwell, where the gullibility of ignorant masses is manipulated beyond reason and the rational. These people cannot think anymore. They can only react like Pavlovian dogs programmed to hate and attack. That should frighten all of us.
