Syria holds out threat of chemical weapons against ‘exterior aggression’

The regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad gave a part-reassuring, part-worrisome answer Monday to growing international concerns about the country’s substantial stockpile of chemical weapons. No, a regime spokesman said, we will not use chemical weapons against other Syrians in the ongoing conflict.

Lebanon president accuses Syria of territory violations

AFP – President Michel Sleiman on Monday accused Syria of violating Lebanese territory after a house in the east of the country was hit by a blast and shells fell on the northern border. In a rare protest against Syria, the Lebanese president “has asked Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour to send a letter.

Arab nations urge Assad to give up power

AFP – Arab nations have called on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to swiftly give up power in order to end his country’s unrest, Qatar’s prime minister said on Monday. “There is agreement on the need for the rapid resignation of President Bashar al-Assad,” Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani told journalists.
