Venezuela and the Ever-Present Threat of American Intervention

Threat of American Intervention

Jim Carrey has taken a siesta from acting lately and has been busy speaking his mind. He’s smart, interesting maybe a little different, but I think his heart is in the right place. While on some of his public sermons, he has been espousing the virtues of socialism and I say amen to that.

Here is a guy who came from meager means but who has not forgotten where or the people he came from. Many actors suffered from this type of act, especially during the Hollywood blacklists of yore, some were communist-leaning actors and jailing of some led to the consequence of loss of employment and worse. The government has used Hollywood to push its pro-war pro-business propaganda for years and there were many players from John Wayne to Ronald Reagan who signed on to this.

There’s a reporter from Venezuela who’s name is Laureano Marquez who said that many of Hollywood’s actors inability to understand politics is directly proportional to their talent. I don’t believe this is true but Venezuela has truly faced the consequences of being a socialist country in a world that a fascist United States loves to dominate. Venezuela has huge oil reserves that the US plans on controlling and hates to see being socialized.

In the first couple months of the Trump Administration’s rule, Trump had a meeting in which he flippantly talked about going to war with Venezuela. All the world leaders that attended that particular UN event thought he was out of his mind. How could a US President say such terrible things as if it would be no big deal?

Under President George W Bush, not long after the United States tried to stage a military coup against Hugo Chavez that failed, Chavez mysteriously died of cancer along with several other dignitaries in South America within 5 years of the time of his death. In the last year days, reports are that Trump reportedly has sought to stage another military coup in Venezuela with the help of rebel military leaders fed up with current Venezuela President Nicolás Maduro.

The Venezuelan reporter Marquez said socialism is the root cause of Venezuela’s current problems. I’d agree with him only because it’s against the United States political and financial interests, our country along with corporate America love to exploit and pick on weaker countries in the Americas. I agree with Marquez when he says socialism is the problem but only because the United States has put financial sanctions on them that have destroyed their economy. Over a million Venezuelans have fled to nearby Colombia for a better future.

Ford, General Motors, and Bridgestone among many other American companies had factories in Venezuela before the country’s socialist turn that have all now been shut down. But it’s just typical of any country in the Americas where that country has a leader that cares and looks out for its people that he ends up dead. South America has too long endured military threat from the United States government because of the financial interests of capitalism and Wall Street. How things turn out from now, one can only guess.

About Jack Jones

Jack Jones writes for Democracy Chronicles from Chicago’s south suburbs where he grew up. He is a union electrician Local 134, certified minister from Berean University, AYSO board member and coach, basketball coach, Cub Scout leader, husband, father and social participant. Jack considers himself a gourmet junk food chef, political writer, musician and likes to contribute to the world around him. A former deacon and chaplain at Cook County Jail in Chicago, he feels that our out-of-control corporate, religious and political environment is to blame for many of the problems in the world today. Jack believes we need to get money out of politics and that the church should take care of people instead of trying to get hypocrites elected to public office.
