This interesting development was pushed by Bloomberg written by Jeff Green. Here is an excerpt

When the gavel came down to start this year’s session of the Michigan legislature, something was strikingly different about those in the power positions. There were no white men. 

For the first time in history, all of the state’s top elected leaders — from Governor Gretchen Whitmer, her lieutenant governor, the secretary of state and attorney general, to the state House and Senate leaders — are all either women or people of color.

“Voters are certainly looking for a different kind of leadership when they elect different people,” said Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist, who this month began his second four-year term as Whitmer’s top deputy. “And so we hope to represent that.  I represent the entirety of this state, even as a Black man from the city of Detroit.”
