Voices of Protest: A Call for Justice and Fairness

Voices of Protest: A Call for Justice and FairnessThe students who have been protesting recently are seeking justice. The risk, however, is an escalation or worse.

Most Israelis are good, moral individuals who are simply trying to survive or live and let live, but the far right has exploited their trust, just as the far right has exploited the trust of well-meaning Americans.

Many around the world are dismayed by the decisions of Reagan, the Bush Dynasty, and Donald Trump, but I trust the international community won’t hold America accountable for the actions of a few who barely won or stole elections.

The reality is, the world is advocating for fairness and its ability to endure amidst a rigged system or the disparities between the haves and have nots. This is an outpouring, a response to the strain of daily life for the majority, the marginalized, and the forgotten. They are making their voices heard through demonstration and protest because they feel that they are being silenced as well.

Rural America has been neglected, alongside all other oppressed demographics. It’s time for those with power and resources to enact change because this backlash is a reaction to the life circumstances of the suffering and marginalized.

Fundamental moral decency and dignity cannot be disregarded without eliciting a violent reaction. These individuals are accustomed to deprivation and have little left to lose overall. We should heed these demands and narratives seriously; otherwise, we will not be fulfilling our obligations, and our collective efforts will fall short in safeguarding the common good.

Let democracy prevail not only in the literal sense but also in the spirit of the law.

About Jack Jones

Jack Jones writes for Democracy Chronicles from Chicago’s south suburbs where he grew up. He is a union electrician Local 134, certified minister from Berean University, AYSO board member and coach, basketball coach, Cub Scout leader, husband, father and social participant. Jack considers himself a gourmet junk food chef, political writer, musician and likes to contribute to the world around him. A former deacon and chaplain at Cook County Jail in Chicago, he feels that our out-of-control corporate, religious and political environment is to blame for many of the problems in the world today. Jack believes we need to get money out of politics and that the church should take care of people instead of trying to get hypocrites elected to public office.

Jack we need more people like you advocating for the common good. Too often decency and fairness are secondary to the interests of the powerful in our American experiment of democracy.
