War Pigs: Black Sabbath Meets the Evangelical Iran War Supporters

The Black Sabbath anthem War Pigs comes to mind when thinking about the current leadership and the actions of this administration. Ozzy Osborne’s haunting lyrics, detail the cost of war and who should be held responsible for these actions. The heavy music piercing vocal and emotive sense of doom fill the airwaves and should be a reminder of the consequences of war. War should bring thoughts of not elation and excitement but dread and empathy for those who find themselves encountering such acts. How much blood must be shed until the hoggs achieve seity.

The truth is it’s never enough, the act of war is more about financial acquisition and attaining power, than making peace, for most. The religious influences or encouragement on more bloodshed is bewildering. The prayer meeting that was broadcast on national television showing an anointing service where the laying of hands in prayer on President Trump, so that Trump’s holy war will be perused for the sake of the furtherance of godly evangelical civilization and the ultimate fervid climax of this end of days death cult.

The amazing thing that makes this blood bath all the more enticing is in the evangelical church’s teaching of pretribulation, meaning that they and their church will be spared from the insidious storm about to be unleashed. Christ will come and save them from all harm, before the worst of it happens. They can cause the misery but won’t have any responsibility for the fallout, or consequences of it. Have we not suffered already, with the loss of our soldiers, in the Gulf Wars? Have we not already killed in the name of Jesus, for the sake of religion?

It’s been said the rich get tax breaks, the middle class lose healthcare and the poor go to war. It must be nice to be special, to consider oneself as a judge, jury and executioner or even to be lucky enough to be born in an affluent zip code. All the perks and none of the hazards of having to fight for the rich. Let the poor do our bidding is what’s said and they’ll make a profit off their servants blood. This is not romantic or a thrill I want to get off on, but a travesty or blight on the human condition.

Our religious leaders are too engulfed and happily excited in the prospect of murder and violence to bring about such a catastrophic event they consider godly. Their encouragement and influence on world leaders to commit war crimes, atrocities and genocide should not be celebrated or revered, but called out for what it is the destruction of man kind. These vile pigs are celebrating the possibility and at this point, the probability of Armageddon.

I’ve been a theological student and nothing beautiful or inspiring can be attached to this engagement. Seas dying, turning to blood, stars falling, mass genocide, starvation, violence, disease and the release of evil spirits upon the land that have been caged up to this point, isn’t comforting. Why try to drag this genie out of the bottle? Why promote this diabolical agenda? Have we already gone too far to compromise? Should we destroy all we’ve built, out of revenge or sense of temporary security? Or political ambition? No one country has ever stayed in power indefinitely without being overthrown in the annals of world history.

Proving military superiority does not guarantee submission or respect from the conquered. Driving your dissenter to ruin can’t provide lasting peace. On the contrary, if we should have learned anything, it only provides energies, passions and plans for retaliation in continued conflict so that the dispossessed can once again feel justice has been served, and they can now rest from their grieved memories of being harmed and violated. The past has only proven that tyranny promotes hatred, resentment and aspirations for revenge.

Every man is right in his own mind and breaking the stubborn aspirations of the ill gotten culmination of wealth through conquest will never be an easy matter. Greed convinces opinions. What worthwhile ambition is built from these actions? How can brotherly love and harmony ever come of this? No matter what there will be loss, grief, death, the infirm, the handicapped and all forms of hardships, because of the results of these actions. Mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters will wail with outstretched arms towards the gods for consolation that doesn’t come or replace what’s been lost.

An iron sky of grey emptiness will settle over the horizon where morning will be felt and cold disappointment will be realized. In the fever or war, madness will fill the land from violence and in the minds of the murdering pursuers, in their quest of annihilating their conquered in the name of their god. Can’t we find better ways to fill our days? To lift up, rather than to break? To embrace rather than to strike? One day this insanity that’s been repeating itself can come to an end. Will it start with you? Will it start with me?
