Polling Mischief in Maine Shows Why We Need Ranked Choice Voting

Take a look at this recent Facebook post by Republican candidate for Governor of Maine Shawn Moody:

I agree with candidate Shawn Moody. The most recent polling for the Maine gubernatorial race, as explained in this Portland Press Herald article, is likely more dirty tricks by the Republicans or their supporters here and abroad, to energize their base with the same fear-based politics they have been using all along. It appears Team “Red” (Both Russian and Republican) hope to split the opposition so that Republicans can win again with a minority-plurality of voters.

They are also attempting to make Democrats and Independents stay home thinking it doesn’t matter if they vote, because the election is a foregone conclusion. IT IS NOT, YOU MUST VOTE!!! If you want your preferred candidate to win, you must vote.

I would also note that Shawn Moody wouldn’t have to make this stupid argument about “fake” polling if short-sighted Republicans, believing that the status quo actually supports their party, had actually enacted ranked choice voting for the gubernatorial election. Republican candidates in Maine still haven’t supported Ranked Choice Voting which the majority of Maine voters have now voted for TWICE!

With ranked choice voting, whoever has the “best chance” to win wouldn’t matter because everyone could simply vote for the candidate they preferred most, in the order they prefer each candidate. The results would speak for themselves.

The poll in question does seem to suggest that Moody can’t win a majority, but the only poll that counts is on election day. No matter who you support, whether they have a chance to win or not, get out and vote! Let’s make sure whoever wins this election actually has the support of a majority of Mainers. Let’s bring legitimacy back to our elections, and not shenanigans. Everyone needs to get behind ranked choice voting, to at least give it a try, since that is what we in Maine have asked for, TWICE!
