264 million young people not in school

The number of school-age children around the world who are not in school has been decreasing over last few decades but some 264 million aren’t receiving any education. This video is from Al Jazeera English, the international English-language news organization controlled by Qatar. In the video, Al Jazeera English presenter Jane Dutton speaks with guests Mary Pigozzi, Director of Educate A Child initiative, Wadi Ben-Hirki, the founder of the Wadi Ben-Hirki Foundation that helps marginalised women, and Joseph Nhan O’Reilly from Save the Children. From the event description:

They say knowledge is power but education funding is declining worldwide. Teaching the future leaders of tomorrow is an investment, and it’s currently more than three billion dollars short. At least 264 million children and teenagers worldwide aren’t receiving the education they need, largely due to underfunding. Sub-Saharan Africa is one of the hardest-hit regions. Strained by poverty, security issues and child marriages, can international organisations come together to close the chapter on illiteracy?
