Consequences of Poverty

by Sudarsan Nagarajan

We as a people know about the consequences of death. Death is a powerful thing that could take away one’s soul from earth. There are many ways in which a person can lose their life on this earth. There are people living who don’t even know what they are living for or what they need to do to survive. Many live for passion, money, and for their loved ones. But there are people who spend most of their time trying to provide for themselves. Many of us take this for granted while we carry out our daily routine activities. For us, it’s our life and we want to spend it in a good manner without worrying about those people. Sadly, hundreds of millions in this world still die because they don’t get their basic necessities (i.e. clothing, food, shelter, etc.).

Many people cannot imagine their life without eating—few even list that as their passion along with body building and shaping. Now, we have to realize that some people with limited wages only have one meal per day. Those people eat not to satisfy their stomach that day but to ease their hunger. They eat with what they earn. The earning capacity of those people doesn’t cross RS 50 a day. They are also the people below the poverty line. When a nation can show itself as very advanced and economically strong, they cannot deny about this factor poverty. Poverty is a disease, but many can’t really understand this: there are consequences of poverty.

Many advanced nations are now in the range of economic poverty, not able to feed their fellow citizens. In this arena, we can’t question government about this factor, we as a people should think what we should do to stabilize it?

Many poor children have beautiful dreams that remain unfulfilled because of poverty. Poverty can lead to children dropping out of school—parents are unable to feed their children let alone provide them with a quality education. This is the main cause of child labor. They send the children to work. Numerous causes can lead people to become poor. The first and foremost is illiteracy and the (lack of) wealth of one’s parents.

Children can also become poor because of their parents, when a parent is in imprisoned or if a child is being brought up as an orphan. Understanding the right concept about poverty has been discussed here. Each and every individual must realize this and contribute to the nation as a whole. Poverty shall be eradicated and can be extinct but this is possible, only when we people as a whole participate in this society.

Society hereby consists of individuals of all age groups. Older people must teach younger and upcoming generations to feed and help the people who are in need. Need means not only monetary needs but material needs can also be contributed. Eternally, government has only few tasks to implement. Accept what the country really has and act accordingly. Each and every country must live on its own resources. Almost anything can be possible if we believe in what we are doing. Government must create a plan to teach people and spread awareness.

Remembering the Consequences of Poverty

In a very interesting case, people who are working at the bottom level of each and every industry make up the million poor in this world. In case of agriculture, the farmer is the owner, but at the end of the day he remains poor. Let’s take the case of fishing. Fishermen are the CEOs and managing directors of their own company called SEA. They stand out there as low income earning individuals. These people can earn and manage their living. But sufferers are the people daily wages. The only way to eradicate poverty is by educating everyone and by encouraging and financing entrepreneurship. Out of all, recognizing the talent of all individuals is very important. There must be a platform in this world for all men and women to utilize their own skills in their own desired field. Hopefully then we can end poverty in this world. Last but not least, I kindly request people to make living sensible and life a meaningful one.
